Stablecoin issuer Circle has unveiled a quantum-resistant security roadmap for its layer1 blockchain Arc, Cointelegraph reported on Sunday.

Circle plans to apply quantum-resistant solutions in phases across all layers of its network technology stack. Starting from the Arc mainnet launch, it will offer quantum-resistant wallets and signature functions on an opt-in basis, and later expand to the validator level and surrounding infrastructure. The Arc mainnet launch is planned for 2026. It is now operating on a public testnet.

Circle said, "Quantum resilience cannot remain only in research papers, exploratory pilot projects or distant roadmap slides." It also said, "Active addresses that have already signed must migrate before Q-day because their public keys have been exposed."

The roadmap comes as some expect practical quantum computers to arrive sooner than expected. Researchers at Google and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) recently said functional quantum computers could emerge earlier with less computing power than expected.

Google said quantum computers could even break Bitcoin encryption in 9 minutes.
