While iPad default apps can manage schedules, memos and to-do lists, the market for dedicated productivity apps is rapidly segmenting as more people seek more structured task management and better focus.

On the issue, IT outlet TechCrunch on April 3 (local time) introduced a function-by-function list of iPad productivity apps that have recently been highly useful in the App Store.

The core of this trend is "organising in one place" and "maintaining focus". Beyond simple memo-taking, features are expanding to visualisation, collaboration, AI-based organisation and blocking distractions, giving users more options.

For users who prefer a visual working environment, Milanote is a representative option. Its board format lets users place ideas and tasks to grasp the overall flow at a glance. It can integrate notes, images, videos and sketches in one space. It also supports collaboration, making it suitable for team work.

In the note-taking app market, combining AI functions is becoming prominent. GoodNotes supports both handwriting and typing and uses AI to help summarise and restructure notes. It links audio recordings with handwritten notes, making it useful for recording lectures or meetings. Notability also offers integrated functions for handwriting, document annotation and audio, and has expanded to include handwriting search, AI summaries and note-based learning features.

To-do management apps are differentiating through calendar integration and focus functions. TickTick offers recurring schedules, tags and priority settings, along with a Pomodoro timer to manage focus time. Todoist lets users quickly add tasks using natural-language input, and combines AI functions with scheduling features.

Focus-maintenance apps are developing in two directions: blocking and motivation. Freedom blocks the use of specific websites and apps for a set period to reduce external distractions. Forest uses a game-like structure in which a tree grows if the user stays on the app during a timer, encouraging immersion.

In collaboration and workflow integration, Notion and Trello are representative. Notion integrates notes, tasks and databases in one place and supports document writing and information organisation with AI functions. Trello uses a board-based interface to manage project progress intuitively.

The productivity category is also expanding into everyday management. Crouton supports saving recipes, planning meals and creating shopping lists, and provides step-by-step timers during cooking to help keep workflow from being interrupted.

Experts see this trend as evolving not simply through adding apps, but in a direction that changes how individuals work. As the iPad moves beyond a consumption device and establishes itself as a productivity-centred tool, users are building customised workflows by combining apps to fit their own work styles, the analysis said.
