South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT on Tuesday launched a steering committee for overseas science and technology and ICT hub centres and held its first meeting.

The committee was formed to support the strategic operation of the overseas hub centres for international joint research, corporate expansion and recruitment of overseas talent. Private-sector experts in science and technology, ICT and technology commercialisation, as well as the government, institutions and overseas centres, are taking part. The meeting reviewed each centre's 2025 results and 2026 plans, along with measures for links and cooperation between centres within regions.

The committee will discuss strengthening links by function and region, reviewing operational performance and mid- to long-term efficiency measures. It also plans to build a cooperation system among overseas centres on the ground, centred on science and technology attachés in each country.

Hwang Sung-hoon (황성훈), director general for international cooperation at the ministry, said, "We will strengthen international cooperation in science and technology and ICT to contribute to achieving the national agenda of becoming one of the world's five leading science and technology powers."
