Cryptocurrency payments startup MoonPay has announced an open-source wallet standard for AI agents, Cointelegraph reported on March 23.

MoonPay's open-source wallet standard supports AI holding funds directly on a blockchain and conducting transactions. Previously, each system managed wallets and keys separately. The standard supports AI agents carrying out blockchain transactions through a single pool of funds.

MoonPay aims to provide a standard API so AI agents can interact with other agents and humans and use the internet.

Existing AI-based payment systems focused on transaction routes but did not cover wallet and key management. MoonPay's standard is designed to store private keys in encrypted local storage and sign transactions in an environment separated from the AI runtime. It also includes policy controls that let users set transaction limits and restrictions, Cointelegraph reported.
