SK Telecom’s AI assistant A.dot and Naver’s translation service Papago were named in the top 50 of U.S. venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (a16z)’s “Top 100 next-generation AI consumer apps” report.

The report released on March 22 showed A.dot ranked 39th in the web products category. A.dot was the only service from a domestic company to enter the web top 50. It marked A.dot’s third consecutive top-50 entry, after placing 15th in the first half of 2025 and 35th in the second half. In the mobile apps category, Papago ranked 43rd and camera app Snow ranked 48th.

The rankings were calculated based on January traffic data this year from market research firms Similarweb and Sensor Tower. They reflect actual usage data, including unique visitors and active users.

ChatGPT ranked No. 1 globally. It topped both web and mobile. Based on web traffic, it was 2.7 times ahead of No. 2 Gemini, and 2.5 times ahead on mobile active users. Weekly active users increased by about 500 million over the past year to about 900 million. That means more than 10 percent of the world’s population uses it weekly.

Competition is also intense. As of January, paid subscribers for Gemini rose 258 percent from a year earlier, while Claude increased by more than 200 percent. Google expanded user inflows with its image-generation model “Nano Banana” and video-generation model “Veo3,” while Anthropic is targeting paid users with its developer tool “Claude Code.”

By region, ChatGPT and Gemini are mainstream in Western markets, while China’s Doubao and Kimi and Russia’s Yandex-based Alice are shaping their markets. In AI adoption rates per population, South Korea ranked fourth, following Singapore, the UAE and Hong Kong. The United States placed 20th.

The report cited the integration of AI into existing platforms as a key shift, rather than AI remaining a standalone service. OpenAI is reshaping the search environment around AI through its browser “Atlas,” while Perplexity is doing so with “Comet.” Google is also moving toward combining AI with existing work tools such as Workspace.
