The KOSPI ended higher on March 20 on buying by retail investors and institutions. The KOSDAQ also rose.
The KOSPI closed up 17.98 points, or 0.31 percent, at 5,781.20. The index opened up 57.25 points, or 0.99 percent, at 5,820.47, kept a mild upward trend and then extended declines.
By investor type, retail investors were net buyers of 2.2286 trillion won and institutions bought a net 405.5 billion won. Foreigners, meanwhile, sold a net 2.6662 trillion won.
The top 10 stocks by market capitalisation were mixed.
Market leader Samsung Electronics closed down 1,100 won, or 0.55 percent, at 199,400 won. SK Hynix also fell 6,000 won, or 0.59 percent, to 1,007,000 won.
Hyundai Motor, Kia, SK Square and Hanwha Aerospace also ended the week’s trading down on the day.
LG Energy Solution, Samsung Biologics and Doosan Enerbility rose.
The KOSDAQ closed up 18.04 points, or 1.58 percent, at 1,161.52.
The won-dollar exchange rate ended at 1,497.80, up 6.80 won, or 0.46 percent, from the previous day.
