The KOSPI, which had fallen to the 5,760 level the previous day, turned higher at the open and is reclaiming the 5,800 level.

As of 9:13 a.m., the KOSPI was up 65.59 points, or 1.14 percent, from the previous session at 5,828.81. The index opened up 50.13 points, or 0.87 percent, at 5,813.35 and has kept rising.

In the main board market, individuals and institutions were net buyers of 425.3 billion won and 11.1 billion won, respectively, supporting the index. Foreigners alone were net sellers of 438.4 billion won, capping gains.

Most heavyweight stocks overcame the previous day's weakness and moved into positive territory.

Market leader Samsung Electronics was trading at 202,000 won, up 1,500 won, or 0.75 percent, from the previous session. SK Hynix was up 10,000 won, or 0.99 percent, at 1,023,000 won.

Samsung Biologics was up 1.70 percent, LG Energy Solution 1.21 percent, Hyundai Motor 0.96 percent, Doosan Enerbility 1.32 percent and Kia 0.53 percent. Hanwha Aerospace was down more than 2 percent, falling 2.55 percent.

At the same time, the KOSDAQ was up 10.78 points, or 0.94 percent, from the previous session at 1,154.26.

In the Seoul foreign exchange market, the won was trading at 1,488.40 per dollar, up 2.60 won from the previous session.
