[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] The Information reported on Feb. 18 local time that Meta Platforms will unveil a smartwatch in 2026, citing two sources familiar with internal matters.
Other big tech companies such as Apple, OpenAI and Google are also accelerating new personal hardware businesses.
Meta has recently developed AI glasses in collaboration with the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands. Against that backdrop, it appears to be looking to expand into smartwatches as well.
Meta also acquired AI device startup Limitless in December last year.
Limitless entered the AI device market by unveiling the Limitless pendant. The device can be attached to a shirt or worn like a necklace and offers voice recording. As competition intensified, however, it became difficult to sustain an independent hardware business, and it pivoted toward joining Meta’s AI wearable strategy.
