[Digital Today reporter Chi-gyu Hwang (황치규)] A survey found that, contrary to expectations that AI would reduce work, it is increasing workload burdens in the workplace.
Fortune reported this on March 13 local time, citing U.S. workplace analytics company ActivTrak. The report compares and analyses 180 days before and after AI adoption for 10,584 users.
After AI adoption, time spent on work by job increased from a minimum of 27 percent to a maximum of 346 percent, the report said. Time spent writing emails rose 104 percent, messaging use increased 145 percent and use of work management tools climbed 94 percent. There were no cases in any work area where AI saved time.
Focused work time fell instead. Average working time spent immersed without interruption dropped 9 percent, and focused work time decreased 2 percent. The share of time spent in a "flow state" was 60 percent as of 2025, extending a decline for a third straight year. It amounted to having less time to think deeply while handling increased repetitive tasks.
In the report, ActivTrak said, "The data is clear. AI does not reduce workloads."
