NHN unveiled a differentiation strategy ahead of the launch of its collectible RPG Abyssdia this month.
At a media briefing held on Feb. 10 at its headquarters in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, Kim Won-ju (김원주), a producer at developer Ring Games, Kim Tae-heon (김태헌), head of development business, and Jung Jung-jae (정중재), head of NHN's game business division, highlighted character-driven storytelling and a real-time combat system.
Four-player co-op action, spotlight on "Harmonic Strike"
Kim introduced what he called the core fun as a narrative in which an original world view that "tunes" the world, cute-girl vanguard characters and four-person chain action battles are organically intertwined.
Abyssdia is set in a world threatened by an interdimensional rift called the Abyss Slit. The protagonist, a "tuner," purifies the Abyss Slit and creates a limitless resource called Abyss Matter, while setting out on adventures with the girls.
At launch, a total of 20 cute-girl vanguard characters appear. The vanguards are portrayed as multidimensional figures with their own affiliations and goals, including "Astera Company" and "Blooming Rose Company." A lineup of well-known Japanese voice actors participates with full voice acting to boost immersion.
The core is a "four-person co-op" format in which 4 characters take the battlefield at the same time. Kim said players can feel the control of instantly linking skills to match enemy patterns rather than simply swapping characters, and stressed it is strategic action in which switching and chaining determine the flow of battle.
The climax of combat is "Harmonic Strike." When players complete a chain by using the 4 skills in succession, the party's coordination erupts and a powerful ultimate is triggered with a dedicated cutscene.
Other combat content includes the boss-raid competitive mode "Abyss Invader" and "Infinity Abyss," which tests players' limits. In particular, a "Let's eat together" feature, in which players bond with characters by sharing food, offers healing and immersion outside of combat.
"Daily chores are 10 minutes," lower fatigue and adopts a "good" BM
Questions at the briefing focused on survival strategy and operating policies amid fierce market competition. Kim said the first strength is unique gameplay and expressed confidence that the fun of tag action, where the battle situation changes in real time, will be a differentiator.
On the business model, Kim said it is at a level that users can feel is reasonable and enjoy without burden. Jung added that the company pursues a level of reasonableness that can satisfy both sides, aiming for long-term service rather than short-term sales.
Play fatigue is also sharply reduced. Essential daily tasks can be completed in about 10 minutes, and repeat content can be handled immediately with a "sweep" function. Key content requiring manual control is also designed with play time within 3 minutes. A PC client will be released at the same time to reduce fatigue from mobile controls.
Updates will proceed at a brisk pace. To quickly introduce Japan's pre-released content, the company plans to add new content and characters every 2 weeks after the first update in March.
Jung stressed that Abyssdia is a game in which each character has an independent narrative and the world view expands around it, and said it aims for long-term service built together with users.
