Stablecoin issuer Tether has unveiled open-source software called MiningOS (MOS) for bitcoin mining, Cointelegraph reported on Monday.

Tether aims to use it to strengthen transparency and scalability in a closed mining industry. MiningOS is a modular operating system designed for use by everyone from hobby-level small miners to large institutions. Tether stressed: "The existing mining industry has been constrained by closed systems and proprietary tools, but MiningOS will change that."

MiningOS communicates with other devices through an integrated peer-to-peer network. It also provides a platform that allows miners to adjust settings easily. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino (파올로 아르도이노) described it as "a complete operating platform that can scale from home mining to industrial mining." Tether first announced plans to develop an open-source bitcoin mining OS in June last year and is focused on helping miners operate independently without relying on expensive external providers.

The announcement also puts Tether in competition with companies that provide open-source mining software such as Block. Cointelegraph said Block's software is optimised for its own mining hardware, while Tether's MiningOS is designed to be compatible with a range of infrastructure.
