U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in Davos, Switzerland, where the World Economic Forum was held, that the United States plans to incorporate seized bitcoin into a national digital asset reserve without selling it. He formalised the Trump administration's strategic bitcoin holding policy.
He said the administration's policy is to include seized bitcoin in the government's digital reserve assets once related legal procedures are completed. He added that it halted sales as the first step. He also said seized assets and proceeds will be added to the reserve in stages.
This is interpreted as a move to recognise bitcoin as a "strategic asset" at the national level and lay a policy foundation to take the lead in the global digital economy. Earlier, President Trump also referred to cryptocurrency as a core U.S. technology sector and showed strong willingness to foster the industry and clarify regulations.
