Colombia's second-largest private pension and retirement fund manager AFP Proteccion is launching a fund that can invest in bitcoin, Cointelegraph reported on Jan. 25.
Juan David Correa (후안 다비드 코레아), chief executive of AFP Proteccion, said in an interview with local media that the fund will be offered only to qualified investors. He said investors can access it after personalised advice assesses their risk profile. While existing pension portfolios focus on traditional assets such as bonds and stocks, the product was introduced to offer an option in digital assets.
AFP Proteccion, founded in 1991, is Colombia's second-largest pension manager and oversees $55 billion in assets. Another pension manager, Scandia, launched a bitcoin investment product in September last year. With AFP Proteccion joining, the spread of digital assets in Colombia's pension market is expected to accelerate.
