DeepX said on March 3 it demonstrated AI semiconductor technology for President Lee Jae-myung (이재명) and ministerial delegations from both countries at the Korea-Singapore AI Connect Summit held in Singapore. The event was jointly hosted by South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, and Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information. DeepX was the only domestic AI semiconductor company invited and took part in the AI innovation demonstration session.
CEO Kim Nok-won (김녹원) unveiled an AI semiconductor for Hyundai Motor robots that is scheduled to be commercialised this year. The chip enables a robot to recognise people in real time and prevent collisions. It allows facial recognition inside the robot without a cloud connection, so it operates even during communications disruptions. DeepX decided to mass-produce the on-device AI chip, dubbed "Edge Brain," which it jointly developed with Hyundai Motor. Hyundai Motor plans to apply the chip to robotics solutions such as in hospitals and hotels.
DeepX ran a "butter demo" to prove the energy efficiency of its ultra-low-power DX-M1 chip. When butter was placed on semiconductors performing the same AI computation, only the butter on the DeepX chip did not melt. The company said this showed the strength of its heat-control technology.
Overseas mass-production performance is also expanding. The company formed a partnership with Chinese AI platform company Baidu and signed a supply contract for 40,000 AI semiconductors. The chips will be installed in robots, drones and factory-automation devices. Mass production will start this year. In South Korea, DeepX solutions have been applied to POSCO DX factory automation and Hanjin Express delivery automation systems.
DeepX is discussing cooperation with Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research and ST Engineering in public safety and smart city fields. In Central and South America and Indonesia, it is 추진하고 있다 public digital transformation projects with local systems integration companies.
Kim said, "DeepX is being recognised as a leading global physical AI semiconductor company, with achievements including winning 5 CES Innovation Awards and receiving the World Economic Forum's Minds Award," and added, "We will make South Korea a global leader in physical AI by localising core AI semiconductor technologies."
