Stripe will provide stablecoin deposit infrastructure for OnePay, a financial services platform backed by Walmart, it said on Oct. 31 local time.
Some U.S. OnePay customers can deposit USDC held in external crypto wallets or exchanges into their OnePay checking accounts.
Deposited USDC is automatically converted into dollars. Stripe will not charge a foreign exchange fee at launch.
The service will be handled by Stripe’s stablecoin platform Bridge. Bridge supports USDC deposits on 12 blockchains, including Tempo, Base, Solana and Ethereum.
Stablecoins are increasingly used to pay freelancers, gig workers and people working overseas. Stablecoins can be remitted abroad within minutes, but using that money from a traditional financial account requires going through a separate exchange, as well as additional transfers and fees.
OnePay customers can now deposit USDC directly into their existing accounts. The deposited money is converted into dollars and can be used for bill payments, transfers and savings. There is also no need to manage a separate stablecoin balance.
Bridge handles deposit address generation and security, USDC processing, regulatory compliance checks and dollar conversion. OnePay plans to roll out several more stablecoin-based services starting with this service.
