[DigitalToday reporter Choo Hyun-woo (추현우)] Sony Korea launched its Cinema Line full-frame camera FX5 in South Korea on Thursday. A key feature is support for 5K 3:2 open-gate recording, a first for the FX series.
The FX5 is equipped with a newly developed stacked 5K full-frame Exmor RS CMOS sensor and a BIONZ XR2 image processing engine. When shooting in S-Log3, it delivers 15-plus stops of dynamic range and, for the first time in the FX series, supports dual-gain shooting. It supports recording at 5K 60 fps, 4K 120 fps and FHD 240 fps.
It supports 16-bit RAW format X-OCN recording in-camera, eliminating the need for an external recorder. The body measures 132.2 by 79.0 by 87.0 mm and weighs 643 grams. It includes optical 5-axis in-body stabilisation, with roll-direction correction up to 2 times wider than the FX3.
Three accessories were also released. The XLR handle unit XLR-H2 supports recording up to 96 kHz in 32-bit float. Sony Korea also launched the 0.58-inch OLED viewfinder DVF-EL1 and the timecode adapter cable VMC-BNCU1.
A Sony Korea official said, "With open-gate shooting and X-OCN in-camera recording, even small-scale video creators will be able to shoot content in a variety of environments."
The body kit is priced at 7.29 million won, and the handle kit including the XLR handle is 8.1 million won. It will be sold through the official Sony Store online sales channel. Accessories are priced at 1.15 million won for the XLR handle unit XLR-H2, 1,049,000 won for the external OLED viewfinder DVF-EL1, and 130,000 won for the timecode adapter cable VMC-BNCU1.
