[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] Prediction market Polymarket added 15-minute gold and silver prediction contracts linked to Chainlink.

The Defiant, a blockchain outlet, reported on Oct. 29 that the contracts are designed to let users bet on how the spot prices of gold and silver move over 15 minutes.

The key is the settlement method. The new contracts determine outcomes based on the spot prices at the start and end of the period. Because the structure pits price direction over a short time frame, which reference price is used to decide winners and losers is seen as the most important element in product design. Polymarket applied Chainlink data to these contracts.

Its fee structure was also disclosed. Polymarket said U.S. users would pay $1.74, before rebates, if they trade 100 contracts at 50 cents.

The product can be seen as an attempt to bring more non-cryptocurrency assets into prediction markets. Polymarket has drawn attention for predicting outcomes tied to political events, macro issues and cryptocurrencies. This time it directly targets ultra-short-term moves in the prices of traditional assets such as gold and silver. Because 15-minute contracts are much shorter than daily or weekly ones, participants have little choice but to be more sensitive to directional calls and execution costs.

It also stands out that the settlement 기준 has been simplified to the starting and ending prices. Because the structure makes the end-of-window price determine the outcome rather than temporary spikes or drops in the middle, users can understand the contract terms relatively clearly.

From a market perspective, transaction costs and the rebate structure are expected to affect actual liquidity formation. The roughly $1.74 fee may appear small on the surface, but in high-turnover products such as 15-minute contracts, cumulative costs can grow. On the other hand, if rebates are applied, there is room for effective costs to fall. Polymarket's decision to present fees on a pre-rebate basis is also read as a measure mindful of this point.

Against this backdrop, the launch shows prediction markets expanding beyond political and social events to cover ultra-short-term price moves in traditional financial assets. Still, the success or failure of the product is expected to depend on the credibility of settlement based on Chainlink price data and how much real trading demand attaches to the short-maturity structure.
