[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] David Schwartz (데이비드 슈워츠), a former chief technology officer at Ripple, said it was highly likely that demand and value for XRP would also grow if the XRP Ledger (XRPL) spreads in financial services.

On Oct. 24, blockchain outlet The Crypto Basic reported that Schwartz said it was unlikely that XRPL’s success and demand for XRP would become detached.

Schwartz said it was very unlikely that XRP would not gain value even if XRPL spreads across the financial sector. He said XRP’s benefit could be limited if the crypto industry ends up relying almost entirely on a single dominant asset, but added that such a scenario is effectively unrealistic.

Another strand of the discussion focused on the fee-burn structure. Saul, an XRP supporter, said the fee-burn mechanism was designed to prevent spam. He said raising transaction fees could burn more XRP, but that could also make the network less attractive.

Schwartz also backed that view. He has said the direct effect of token burns on price is small and, even if there is an effect, it is limited. He again stressed that XRP’s value comes more from increased XRPL use than from burns themselves. He also said users must hold XRP to pay fees, and that such factors could help lift value and demand.

He also mentioned that XRP’s role would not disappear even if bitcoin becomes the main asset for payments. Schwartz said XRPL supports multiple forms of bitcoin and that XRP can intermediate value transfers between bitcoin and other assets. That means XRP can function as a bridge currency even if it is not the final settlement asset.

Saul said XRPL’s automatic bridging feature supports that direction. He said XRP can secure real use cases in the process of connecting trades between different assets. He added that the direct impact on price from XRP tied up in accounts or from transaction fees themselves is not large, and that indirect effects appear through market expectations.

Vet, an XRPL validator, also argued that wider adoption is a favorable structure for XRP value. He said the decentralized exchange (DEX) built into XRPL simplifies asset trading by reducing reliance on separate platforms or complex smart contract systems. He also said XRP’s role could be strengthened as more assets, including RippleUSD (RLUSD), circulate on the network.

The core of the discussion, in the end, was where XRP’s value comes from. Schwartz said XRP’s function in transactions on XRPL, liquidity provision and value transfers between assets matters more than fee burns. As a result, as financial use of XRPL increases in practice, the logic for XRP’s long-term value could become more closely linked to network usability.

@uptownsaul @g_985589 @THEnome I think a world where XRPL is highly successful in financial applications but XRP does not have high demand and value is very unlikely. About the only way that could happen would be if we wound up in a world with one totally dominant settlement asset. That seems unlikely to me.
