Bitcoin is trading around $83,000 and holding above the upper end of a key trend line.

Decrypto, a blockchain media outlet, reported on Oct. 20 that bitcoin is keeping a rebound structure but remains in a neutral zone where it could move either up or down.

The crypto market broadly rebounded on the day. Total market capitalisation rose about 2 percent to $2.8 trillion, and the Fear and Greed Index, a gauge of market sentiment, was measured at 51. That is up 3 points from 49 a day earlier, putting it in neutral territory between fear and greed.

The key point is that bitcoin has rebounded near $80,000 and is holding major support levels. It has recently held above its 50-day exponential moving average, a 50-day average price line. That indicator is at $80,702. The 200-day exponential moving average, which shows the long-term trend, is at $76,123.

Momentum is not strong. The relative strength index (RSI) is 53.34, well below the overbought threshold of 70, and far from the oversold level of 30, making it hard to say the market is overheated in one direction.

On the upside, $87,371 was cited as the nearest resistance level. A daily close above that level would signal that the rebound is moving into a new upswing.

Support levels on the downside are set in stages. Initial support is at $80,433, overlapping with the 50-day line. If that breaks, the next support is $76,140. Below that, $72,671 was cited as the next defence line. The chart also mentioned $69,202, $64,263 and $57,972 as support zones.

Key points to watch by scenario are also clear. In a bullish scenario, bitcoin needs to break above $87,371 and see momentum strengthen as well. The base case is a range-bound move between $80,433 and $87,371. In that band, the RSI could stay around 50 and the 50-day line could act as support, while upper resistance continues to limit gains.

In a bearish scenario, a daily close below $80,433 is the key. In that case, the possibility of testing $76,140 could open up, but if it also falls below the 200-day line, the market's focus could shift to $72,671.

The macro environment is also a variable. Brent crude is trading around $110 a barrel following the impact of an attack on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Higher oil prices could lift fuel and commodity prices and raise inflation pressure. If inflation strengthens, the likelihood increases that the U.S. Federal Reserve will keep rates high for longer or raise them further, and if Treasury yields rise above 5 percent, funds could flow out of risk assets such as cryptocurrencies. The Fed will hold a meeting on Oct. 27 and 28.

Ultimately, in the near term, whether bitcoin breaks above $87,371 and whether it defends $80,433 are expected to be key turning points for its next direction. Technical indicators are still keeping an uptrend, but market sentiment and the macro environment are not providing a clear direction.
