A bitcoin wallet linked to Irish drug offender Clifton Collins (클리프턴 콜린스) has moved again after about 10 years.

U.Today, a virtual asset outlet, reported on Oct. 20 that 500 bitcoin worth about $41.52 million, or 55.1 billion won, were transferred from the wallet to Coinbase Prime. Blockchain analytics firm Lookonchain also tracked the transaction.

The bitcoin moved this time are part of 6,000 bitcoin Collins accumulated more than a decade ago. He is known to have amassed the bitcoin through cannabis cultivation from late 2011 to early 2012. At the time, bitcoin traded at a few dollars.

As the value of his bitcoin holdings grew, Collins split the stash into 12 wallets holding 500 bitcoin each, fearing hacking. He printed the private keys on A4 paper and hid them inside an aluminium cap in a fishing rod case. He kept the case at a rented home in Galway County, Ireland.

He was arrested in 2017 after cannabis was found in a vehicle and later served 5 years in prison. While Collins was imprisoned, the rented home was burglarised and items from the house were later cleared out and moved to a local landfill. The fishing rod case believed to have contained the private keys also disappeared.

Irish authorities later moved to gain access to and seize the related bitcoin. In March 2026, Ireland's Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) said it accessed a 500-bitcoin wallet that was known to be inaccessible, with support from Europol's European Cybercrime Centre. An additional 500 bitcoin were seized in May and July. On Aug. 28, 500 bitcoin worth about $39.56 million, or 52.5 billion won, were transferred to Coinbase Prime.

The Oct. 20 transfer is the fifth case this year in which funds in 500-bitcoin units moved out of wallets linked to Collins. As bitcoin tied to private keys believed to have been lost continues to move, attention is also focusing on progress in recovering assets long thought to be inaccessible.

The specific purpose of this transfer was not confirmed. The fact that the funds moved to Coinbase Prime alone does not allow conclusions about whether they were sold or the reasons for the transfer.
