[Digital Today reporter Jinju Hong (홍진주)] Speculation is emerging that Apple’s next iPad mini launch is near. An unrecognized model number appeared on Apple’s official regulatory information page, raising the possibility that preparations are under way for a new iPad mini.

On Oct. 17 (local time), online media outlet Gigazine reported that Apple’s regulatory information page posted new information on Sept. 9 related to a Smart Folio for the iPad mini. The model number in the document is A3632, which does not match the iPad mini model currently on sale.

Apple’s seventh-generation iPad mini uses an A17 Pro chip and has model number A2993. A3632 also does not appear on Apple’s official iPad identification page. This has fueled speculation that the number may refer to an unreleased next-generation iPad mini or a related accessory.

Attention is focused in particular on the fact that the information is linked to a Smart Folio for the iPad mini. Because Smart Folios are made to match a device’s exterior and size, if the new model number is tied to an actual new product it could indicate changes in the main unit’s design or specifications.

Still, the information disclosed so far does not confirm whether A3632 is the model number for a new iPad mini unit or a number used for accessories or internal management. Detailed Smart Folio specifications and whether it is compatible with existing products have not been disclosed either.

Possible key changes for the next iPad mini include the display and water resistance. The market has continued to project that Apple could adopt an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display for the eighth-generation iPad mini. Speculation has also emerged that water resistance could improve. The document, however, did not provide specific details supporting such specification changes.

Interest is also focused on the launch schedule. Previous projections suggested Apple could unveil the next iPad mini alongside a new MacBook Pro in late October 2026. The emergence of the model number is being seen as aligning with that outlook and is heightening interest in a possible product reveal.

The key question is whether A3632 is the model number for an actual eighth-generation iPad mini unit or a number for internal classification. Still, the appearance of a number not found on Apple’s official support page in a regulatory information document, and its link to an iPad mini accessory, is meaningful. Attention is now on whether Apple revises related documents or unveils a follow-up iPad mini model at a late-October product announcement.
