Blockchain.com, a cryptocurrency wallet and trading platform, has applied for 2 licences to offer prediction-market and cryptocurrency-derivatives trading services in the United States, CNBC reported on Oct. 9 local time.
Blockchain.com has applied for a designated contract market (DCM) licence and registration as a futures commission merchant (FCM), the report said. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has the authority to approve them.
Peter Smith (피터 스미스), Blockchain.com CEO, said, "Users should be able to manage digital assets, trade derivatives and bet on the outcome of real-world events without having to switch between multiple apps."
Blockchain.com already offers prediction markets via Polymarket and perpetual futures trading via Hyperliquid. For now, only customers outside the United States can use them. If the newly requested licences are approved, it can offer these products to U.S. customers as well.
Blockchain.com said in September it would work with the New York Stock Exchange to help users trade tokenised U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs).
It is also preparing for a listing. Blockchain.com filed confidentially for a U.S. initial public offering in May. Bloomberg News reported it is seeking a listing within the year at a valuation of $4 billion to $6 billion. Blockchain.com aims to raise about $500 million through the IPO.
