Cohere unveiled North 2, a platform for operating AI agents inside large organisations.

SiliconANGLE reported on Oct. 5 that the upgrade focuses on strengthening orchestration for multistep tasks and managing caps on token spending.

Cohere said companies often had to give up one of security, functionality or cost control when adopting AI agents. It said it reflected large-scale operating experience across a range of fields, including finance and the public sector, in the upgrade.

North 2 handles multistep tasks on its own, with humans intervening only at stages that require approval or sign-off. Agents built with simple prompts can be shared across the company, reducing the need to build the same workflow repeatedly. Each agent retains memory across sessions, and frequently used logic can be bundled into a reusable "skills" feature. Common documents and assets are used jointly by multiple agents through a shared library.

Users can create slide decks, dashboards and simple apps with natural-language requests, and refine prototypes inside a chat window.

The builder also provides prebuilt templates for repetitive tasks and a drag-and-drop workflow builder. Performance can be checked in real time. Connectors support Slack, GitHub, Microsoft SharePoint and OneDrive. Cohere plans to add connectors for PitchBook data, S&P Global and FactSet Research Systems in the future.

Cost controls are provided through an admin console called North Admin. Administrators can track token usage by user and agent, and set consumption tiers by user and group based on request volume and the pace of token use. They can also set a companywide usage cap and send warning alerts before reaching the limit. North 2 is not tied to a specific model, allowing customers to assign models sourced outside Cohere by team.

Security controls are also set in North Admin. Administrators can apply guardrails to individual agents and check prompts and responses for personally identifiable information and attempts at prompt injection. Autonomy policies restrict each agent to performing only authorised tasks. Deployment supports on-premises and customers' virtual private clouds, and it can also be installed in a fully air-gapped environment with no external connections.

Cohere also highlighted operating cost reductions through cooperation with Nvidia. The company said its models generate more tokens per second per node on Nvidia Blackwell and Hopper GPUs.
