Daewon CTS' enterprise division said on Wednesday it signed a memorandum of understanding with Kazakhstan's Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development (MAIDD) to cooperate on AI modular data centres and AI infrastructure.
The cooperation was agreed at a Korea-Kazakhstan business roundtable held on the occasion of the first Korea-Central Asia summit.
The two sides will form a joint working group to flesh out feasibility, financing and the business model. Individual projects will be pursued under separate contracts in accordance with applicable laws and procurement rules.
Daewon CTS plans to supply AI infrastructure tailored to local demand with its self-developed container-type AI modular data centre, the AI Edge Cube.
A modular data centre can be deployed starting from the required capacity and expanded in stages depending on demand. It can also adjust GPU servers, storage, networks, and power and cooling facilities to match site and electricity conditions in different regions. The company stressed it is suitable for Kazakhstan, which has a vast territory and is seeing rising demand for AI infrastructure across multiple regions.
Choi Gui-nam (최귀남), head of Daewon CTS' enterprise division, said, "We will support Kazakhstan in securing AI infrastructure tailored to its own data and industrial demand by integrating into the AI Edge Cube our experience accumulated in Korea in building GPU clusters and Ethernet-based AI networks." He said, "With AI modular data centres as the first step, we will create a foothold for data centre developers and operators and cloud service providers to enter together with the operating capabilities and services and solutions of major Korean AI companies."
