Sh Suhyup Bank failed to select a final candidate for its next chief executive. That was because none of the candidates won the backing of at least 4 of the 5 members of the CEO Nomination Committee.
According to the financial sector on Sept. 22, the committee held a meeting at about 1 p.m. but did not confirm a final candidate. The committee plans to resume talks later.
Earlier, the committee interviewed all 6 applicants the previous day.
Internal candidates include incumbent CEO Shin Hak-ki (신학기) and former vice CEOs Jeong Cheol-gyun (정철균) and Park Yang-su (박양수). External applicants include Lee Hyeong-ju (이형주), head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU), Kang Cheol-seung (강철승), head of the Korea Fisheries Policy Forum, and Lee Hyeong-seung (이형승), an outside director at BNK Securities.
In the financial sector, a rivalry between Shin and Lee is being discussed. But further talks are needed because selecting a final candidate requires the consent of at least 4 of the 5 committee members.
Delays in appointments because the required backing is not secured have been repeated in the past, according to reports, except when Shin was appointed as the current CEO.
A Suhyup Bank official said, "It looks like a meeting will be held again after the holiday."
