Gwacheon National Science Museum will run experience and performance programmes combining traditional games with science for the Chuseok holiday.
The museum said on Sunday it will hold a special Chuseok science culture event on Sept. 24 and Sept. 26-27, for three days, around the museum grounds.
In the Central Hall and the Korean Science Civilization Hall, it will run traditional game experience programmes under the theme "Questions That Made Civilisation x Hangawi". The "Scientific K-Game Challenge" will offer missions that add scientific rules to games such as jegichagi, yutnori, tuho and gonggi. A children's workshop, "MakeGO! PlayGO! K-Game Craft Room", will offer activities such as making spinning tops and Sasin-do ddakji.
A "Hangawi Heung Pungmul Performance" will be held daily at 2 p.m. The museum will also run a mission to find five grains and assorted crops with its mascot "Shuki" and a photo zone. It has also prepared programmes for foreigners and multicultural families. These include "Photo Salon, King's and Queen's Best Shot" for commemorative photos in royal court clothing and a planetarium special programme, "Starlight Cinema at 5 p.m.".
At its Creative Studio, it will hold a toy-themed pop-up event called "Changsin-dong@Chuseok Science Museum: Malang-i Marketplace". It will include a photo zone recreating Changsin-dong's toy street, an exhibition introducing scientific principles in toys, a Malang-i making experience and a pop-up store.
It will also run a folk game-making experience, "Science Museum Yutnori", a Natural History Hall special exhibition, "Beyond Data, an Unknown World", a mission programme on seasonal changes in birds called "Find Evidence of Autumn", and a cat-finding mission, "Quantum Hide-and-Seek, Observe the Hidden Kitty".
The museum will open its permanent exhibition halls free of charge during the event period of Sept. 24-27, excluding its regular closed day on Sept. 25. Parking fees and some programmes will be charged.
