Mobility platform Whistle said on Sept. 18 it has partnered with Yeoju in Gyeonggi Province ahead of the Chuseok holiday to provide an integrated parking and stopping enforcement alert service.

Yeoju residents and visitors can use the service by registering their vehicle information in the Whistle app. If a vehicle is captured by fixed or mobile CCTV in Yeoju enforcement zones, guidance is sent through app push notifications and AlimTalk messages. The system encourages drivers to move vehicles quickly to secure traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

Demand for parking and stopping management is also growing as the number of vehicle owners rises. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the cumulative number of registered vehicles in South Korea stood at 26,676,000 as of the end of June, up 161,000 from the end of last year. Whistle is responding by expanding integrated services that can be used in partner regions without separate registration for each area.

Users who sign up once can continue using the service without separately setting up additional partner regions added later. New subscribers and existing users can receive enforcement alerts in Yeoju without a separate application process. During the Chuseok holiday, when vehicle travel increases for homecoming trips and outings, Whistle users can use the service immediately when visiting Yeoju.

Yeoju has tourism resources such as the Namhan River, Silleuksa Temple and the tomb of King Sejong, as well as shopping infrastructure such as Yeoju Premium Outlets. Seasonal festivals, including the Yeoju Ceramic Festival, the Yeoju Heungcheon Namhan River Cherry Blossom Festival and the Yeoju Ogok Naru Festival, continue through the year, drawing tourists year-round. Whistle expects the partnership will provide parking and stopping convenience not only to local residents but also to non-local drivers visiting for tourism and shopping.

Chief Executive Haejun Jeong (정해준) said, "The integrated parking and stopping enforcement alert service quickly delivers enforcement information to drivers to encourage voluntary vehicle movement, and supports local governments in creating a safe traffic environment." He added, "We will focus on stable operations so the service can be used conveniently without regional sign-up procedures, including during the Chuseok holiday and other periods when visitor numbers to Yeoju increase."

Whistle also provides services needed for vehicle ownership and management in a single app, including the used-car sales service Pickdeal, a car price report, car washes and vehicle inspections.
