LG Uplus will work with Hyundai Elevator to upgrade an AI-based remote monitoring system for elevators.
LG Uplus and Hyundai Elevator said on Sept. 17 they signed a memorandum of understanding on Sept. 15 at Hyundai Group Building in Jongno district, Seoul, on cooperation in wireless services and AI and security for a smart remote monitoring platform.
The companies plan to apply LG Uplus' machine-to-machine (M2M) service to the communications section between Hyundai Elevator's smart remote monitoring platform, MIRI, and elevators to improve the stability of remote monitoring.
They will also run a proof-of-concept for an elevator emergency call service model using AI voice recognition technology. The elevator emergency call device is equipment that allows passengers to request help from outside if they are trapped in an elevator or face an emergency. The companies plan to apply AI voice recognition to the emergency call device and have AI conduct an initial analysis of the call content. AI would handle simple inquiries or malfunctions, while dedicated staff would respond immediately if it is judged to be an emergency.
They will also expand cooperation in security. They will review applying LG Uplus' security monitoring service and its cloud-based network and integrated security platform, U+SASE, to Hyundai Elevator's MIRI. The companies previously jointly developed the MIRI View service in 2023, which uses AI CCTV inside elevators to detect abnormal situations such as screams, collapse and prolonged stays and deliver them to the control center.
Jang-hyeok Lim (임장혁), executive vice president and head of LG Uplus' enterprise customer group, said, "Based on stable wireless communications, we will innovate the elevator remote monitoring system by organically combining AI and security," adding, "We will work with Hyundai Elevator to identify various innovative tasks that can improve customer safety and convenience."
Seok-gyu Choi (최석규), executive vice president and head of Hyundai Elevator's service business division, said, "In the future, elevator competitiveness will be determined by how quickly and accurately it responds to crisis situations," adding, "Together with LG Uplus, we will add AI, communications and security capabilities to elevator services to deliver safety and convenience at a higher level."
