[Digital Today reporter Hyunwoo Chu] The 'batch' (XLS-56) upgrade to XRP Ledger (XRPL) has cleared its activation threshold. On Sept. 16 (local time), blockchain media outlet U.Today reported that the amendment secured 82.86 percent approval in validator voting and entered a 14-day countdown on Sept. 14.

Under XRPL rules, once the threshold is exceeded a 14-day timer starts. If that status is maintained for two weeks, the upgrade is applied automatically at 1406 UTC on Sept. 29.

The core of XLS-56 is support for batch transactions. It can bundle up to eight transactions from different users into one package and process them in a single ledger close. The process applies an all-execute-or-all-cancel rule. If even one transaction in the bundle fails or price slippage occurs, the entire package is immediately rolled back.

The structure reduces the risk that only one side sends assets and the counterparty transaction stops midway. In institutional payments, it can be used for delivery-versus-payment by processing the transfer of ownership of tokenised assets and payment at the same time. It also makes it possible to swap NFTs directly without converting them into XRP or other tokens in between.

On decentralised exchanges, it also supports bundling multiple orders, executing only the orders that fill first and then cancelling the rest. Application developers can include service fees in user payments and process them at the same time as the main transaction.

This rollout is the second attempt. XRPL pursued the first version of the batch feature in February this year, but halted it urgently after Cantina AI found a vulnerability in the signature verification logic. RippleX later redesigned the structure and reflected code in xrpld v3.3.0 after tests by Halborn and Common Prefix and a public stress test in the Sherlock Attackathon.
