[DigitalToday reporter Jinju Hong] Crypto market commentator Lark Davis criticised Cardano (ADA) for weak network utilisation and cited a gap with Solana (SOL).

On Sept. 11 local time, blockchain outlet Decrypt reported that Davis argued Cardano has not reached an adoption level that matches its age even after eight years since launch.

The dispute began when Cardano SPO operator Cesebi expressed trust in Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson and the project’s long-term vision. Davis asked whether that trust is supported by current network activity. He called Cardano a “ghost town” and said on-chain indicators remain weak.

Davis also questioned whether technical development and upgrades have translated into real adoption. He said eight years was enough time to show stronger user activity. He asked why Cardano has not reached a level “comparable to Solana” in terms of usage, and said the two ecosystems have a large gap in adoption and network activity.

The gap is also clear in network metrics. ChainSpect data showed Solana, launched in March 2020, has processed more than 126 billion cumulative transactions. Cardano launched three years earlier, but its cumulative transaction count stood at about 124 million.

Solana also leads in DeFi metrics. Solana’s total value locked was tallied at $5.8 billion, and its decentralised exchange trading volume over the past 24 hours was $2.9 billion. Cardano’s total value locked was about $59.83 million, with decentralised exchange volume at about $1.19 million.

The Cardano camp cited different priorities as the reason for low adoption. Cesebi said Cardano chose governance and infrastructure building first, which made its pace of spread relatively slow. He said the network has put in place much of the foundation needed for the next stage of growth and is now focusing on improving scalability and DeFi activity through initiatives such as AlphaGrowth Prime.

Davis did not agree with that explanation. He said technical upgrades have limited meaning if they do not bring in more users and increase network activity. He also asked investors who still hold growth expectations whether they are willing to wait “another eight years”.

Cardano and Solana have often been compared, but their development philosophies differ. Cardano has taken a slow approach that values academic research and formalised development procedures. Solana has focused on high performance, speed and rapid ecosystem expansion.

This difference is showing up more clearly in real network activity than in simple technical direction. The dispute over Cardano has ultimately converged on whether a research-focused development strategy can lead to user adoption and economic activity. The clash again highlighted a gap between Cardano’s long-term strategy and its current performance.
