Prominent investor Anthony Pompliano (앤서니 폼플리아노) has proposed a combination of bitcoin and artificial intelligence as a leading investment portfolio for the next 20 years. On Sept. 3, blockchain outlet U.Today reported he argued the mix is effectively the only option to protect long-term capital during a U.S. fiscal crisis.

Pompliano cited U.S. debt exceeding $40 trillion as of September 2026 and annual interest costs topping $1 trillion as key variables. He saw the burden as a macroeconomic factor that will drive financial markets going forward. He also said policymakers have only 2 choices and that holding both bitcoin and AI can prepare for the risks of both scenarios.

He distinguished bitcoin as an inflation hedge and AI as a growth beneficiary asset. He explained that if the government lowers the value of money and supplies large-scale liquidity to reduce its debt burden, bitcoin, with its limited supply, could serve as an inflation defense. In that case, he also raised the possibility that prices could exceed $1 million over the long term as massive newly issued dollars flow into bitcoin.

Conversely, he said that if policymakers put more weight on economic expansion and aggressive growth, AI could become a core technology driving a sharp rise in productivity. He said investors need to invest in AI infrastructure to capture profits from this technological shift.

Bitwise chief investment officer Matt Hougan also backed the same "dual-stack" strategy. He said investors need to hold both assets to generate returns under either scenario.

The market trend in 2026 also showed such a complementary effect. In early summer, bitcoin fell 33% amid Federal Reserve tightening, but since January Micron rose 224.97% and AMD climbed 108.80%, with gains in semiconductor stocks offsetting it. In late August, by contrast, bitcoin posted a strong V-shaped rebound during a correction in the AI sector, restoring balance.
