Voice spam doubles in 2025 H2 after mobile handset subsidy law repeal
The Korea Communications Commission and the Korea Internet & Security Agency on May 14 released data on spam distribution in the second half of 2025. A survey of 3,000 mobile phone and email users aged 12 to 69 found average monthly spam received per person rose to 10.35 messages, up 30.8 percent from the first half. Voice spam doubled, while text spam and related reports and detections fell sharply.

SKT tops national customer satisfaction index for 29th straight year
SK Telecom topped the 2026 National Customer Satisfaction Index survey by the Korea Productivity Center, ranking No. 1 in the mobile phone service category for the 29th consecutive year. The index measures consumer satisfaction with products and services sold in South Korea. SKT said the result reflected efforts to improve AI-centered telecom services, strengthen customer protection and network security after a cyber incident last year, and restore customer trust. SK Broadband also ranked No. 1 for 16 straight years.

South Korea tightens illegal spam blocking with system revamp and AI push
South Korea is stepping up efforts to prevent damage from illegal spam by expanding pre-emptive blocking of invalid numbers and strengthening sender verification, aiming to stop spam at the sending stage. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Communications Commission held a joint public-private meeting in Seoul on April 14 with related agencies and industry participants. Measures include improvements to block overseas spam, tighter identity checks for bulk senders and an AI-based joint response platform.
