Park In-gyu holds town hall meeting on key R&D policies
Park In-gyu (박인규), head of the Ministry of Science and ICT\'s Office of Science and Technology Innovation, attended a town hall meeting at the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology on May 8 to share the government\'s science and technology policy direction. The event was the fourth and final stop in a series of regional meetings. About 100 participants, including academics, students, researchers and industry, discussed institutional improvements and policy needs.

MSIT steps up push to join top three in AI, R&D overhaul, telecom bill relief
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said it will focus this year on policies to help the country advance into the top three in artificial intelligence. Vice Prime Minister Bae Kyung-hoon said the government would secure a world-class homegrown AI model and accelerate AI innovation in areas of strength such as manufacturing and shipbuilding. The ministry also plans reforms to government R&D, stronger information security measures and steps to reduce households\' telecommunications costs.

MSIT to invest 108.2 billion won in regional science and technology innovation in 2026
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said on Friday it finalised its 2026 plan for regional science and technology innovation and university-research institute cooperation. The ministry will invest 108.2 billion won this year in three core programmes: regional R&D innovation support, a university-research cooperation platform and deep-tech scale-up valleys. It will allocate 89.0 billion won to regional R&D support and shift fully to a region-led R&D system.
