PIPC approves pre-assessment of Naver\'s AI Tab search agent
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission reviewed and approved the results of a pre-assessment of Naver Corp\'s AI Tab search AI agent service. The commission decided Naver can operate the service legally on the condition it implements agreed measures. Naver sought the review ahead of launching the feature to ensure lawful and safe use of user data. The regulator set requirements on opt-out options, transparency and added security steps, and preventing sensitive and identifying data from being inferred or included in AI answers.

OpenAI completes appointment of local representative in South Korea
OpenAI has completed the appointment of a local representative in South Korea under the revised Personal Information Protection Act, officials said. The law requires overseas firms with a Korean unit to designate that unit as the local representative and disclose it in their privacy policy. OpenAI updated its Korea privacy policy on April 1. OpenAI also said it will follow obligations under the AI Basic Act, which requires a local representative and reporting to the science ministry.

PIPC shares expanded data portability measures with key public agencies
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission said on Tuesday it briefed major public institutions, including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the National Health Insurance Service, on expanded measures for personal data portability and shared details of updated regulations. The commission is revising public guidance on the amended enforcement decree, covering broader scope for portability requests, criteria for determining covered entities, prior consultations on transfer methods, exclusions for sensitive information, and requirements when agents use automated tools.
