Portal Daum has completed legal separation procedures from Kakao, 11 years after their merger.
Industry sources said on Dec. 1 that the legal provider of Daum’s services changed that day to Kakao subsidiary AXZ. Daum has returned to an independent corporate structure for the first time since its 2014 merger with Kakao.
The change adds a statement to Daum’s service terms saying that AXZ provides the service. Kakao has also removed Daum-related content from its user agreements, including its privacy policy.
Kakao spun off its content CIC in May to create a new company and changed its name to AXZ the following month. The latest change marks the final stage of that spin-off process.
Login procedures remain the same. Users can continue to access Daum without extra steps because the Kakao unified account stays in place.
