ARTEX open-source AI penetration testing tool goes private, developer denies link to hacking of South Korean financial firms

Interest has grown in ARTEX, an AI-based penetration testing tool developed in China, after it was reported to have been used in cyberattacks targeting South Korean financial institutions. ARTEX is an autonomous penetration testing system built on multi-agent large language model technology and had been offered as open source. Developer Autumn-27 has moved the tool to private access, saying the attacks were unrelated and that malicious use violates its intent, and said updates, new releases and maintenance support would stop.

Ripple Payments safeguards spotlight XRP reconversion and fund recovery

A procedure to recover funds by reconverting XRP into fiat when a remittance fails in Ripple’s cross-border payments service, Ripple Payments, has drawn renewed attention. Ripple documents set out how the system retries payments and, if unresolved, converts XRP back to fiat and moves it to a segregated sender account (SSA). The SSA can be used for later payments. A report cited rising ODL volumes and use by more than 300 financial institutions.

SK Shieldus on Wednesday released a guide analysing shadow IT and API security issues as AI-driven automated attacks spread. The company said the guide reviews recent financial sector breach cases, examining how AI-based attack tools are used and the actual intrusion paths, and outlines security systems companies need to prepare for similar attacks. SK Shieldus assessed that recent incidents were closer to automating and advancing existing attacks than creating new techniques.
