Privacy watchdog recommends improving face authentication for mobile phone activation
South Korea\'s Personal Information Protection Commission recommended that the Ministry of Science and ICT improve its face authentication scheme used when activating mobile phone service. The commission said it found insufficient review of privacy safeguards for handling biometric facial data, which is treated as sensitive information under the privacy law. It pointed to unclear legal grounds, limited ability to refuse consent, and a need to minimise data processed by contractors\' systems.

KISA launches 18 next-generation security projects, selects 50 companies
The Korea Internet & Security Agency said it is pushing ahead with a 2026 information security new-technology support program with the Ministry of Science and ICT. It selected 18 projects worth 12.04 billion won across four areas, including AI-based security product commercialisation, fostering AI security firms, developing a Korea-style integrated security model and introducing zero trust. KISA also selected 50 companies to carry out the projects.

Hancom With launches standalone Hancom Auth liveness face spoofing detection solution
Hancom With, an affiliate of Hancom Group, has launched a standalone product based on the liveness detection technology that is a core function of its Hancom Auth face authentication solution. The company said the new Hancom Auth Liveness supports companies that need only spoofing detection, allowing quick adoption without building a separate face authentication system. It said the product can be added via API in a plug-in 방식 and runs on CPUs without expensive GPUs.
