Japan tightens personal data security guidance, urges deletion of unused data

Japan’s Personal Information Protection Commission set out strengthened security measures for companies after a series of large-scale personal data leaks. It urged phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication for access to external networks, admin accounts and sensitive data, and recommended tools such as FIDO2 passkeys. The commission also called for intrusion detection using IDS/IPS and EDR, safe deletion methods for cloud-stored data, and prompt deletion of information no longer needed.

AhnLab A-FIRST researcher Lee Jung-wook wins encouragement award at Korean cryptanalysis competition

AhnLab said on Tuesday that its REPO team, which included a researcher from its threat intelligence analysis team A-FIRST, won an encouragement award at an awards ceremony for the 12th 2026 Cryptanalysis Competition held in Seoul on Sept. 21. The annual competition is jointly hosted and sponsored by the Korea Institute of Information Security and Cryptology and the ROK Army 777 Command. Participants competed across eight areas.

Chavy selected as first pilot operator for Plug and Charge on public fast chargers

Electric vehicle fast-charging infrastructure operator Chavy has been selected as the first pilot operator for the Plug and Charge (PnC) service on public fast chargers promoted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the company said on Monday. Chavy will initially apply PnC to 30 chargers from late October and check service stability in real charging conditions. The company has also applied a hardware security module chip and has operated its own PnC-based service.
