Latham & Watkins buys Nvidia GPU servers to build and fine-tune AI models
U.S. law firm Latham & Watkins has bought Nvidia GPU servers and started fine-tuning AI models, the Financial Times reported on Thursday. The firm is seen as the first major law firm to purchase its own AI hardware and fine-tune models. Engineers are adapting existing open-weight AI models to the firm’s needs. The move aims to keep sensitive client information off external clouds and maintain flexibility as AI pricing could raise costs.

DeepSeek\'s new V4.1 Flash model posted performance close to OpenAI\'s GPT-6 Astra in a practical design-task evaluation while sharply cutting costs, results showed. OpenDesign Arena gave V4.1 Flash 81.2 out of 100, compared with 82.7 for GPT-6 Astra. The cost per finished design was $0.023 for V4.1 Flash versus $1.61 for GPT-6 Astra, and average completion time was 5.3 minutes versus 11.1 minutes.
