Clamshell vs book type: which foldable phone fits you best?
Foldable phones largely fall into clamshell and book-type designs, and the choice depends on how users prioritise everyday tasks. Engadget said clamshell models emphasise portability and one-handed use, aided by stronger outer displays for quick checks. Book-type foldables open into tablet-like screens suited to video, reading, games and multitasking, but can be heavier and more complex. Surveys also suggest book-type shipments could overtake clamshells in 2026.

Apple entry may mark turning point for foldable phones after seven years of trial and error
Foldable phones may be reaching a turning point for mainstream adoption after seven years of technical trial and error, as Apple joins a market where Samsung Electronics, Huawei, Oppo, Honor and Google have worked to improve creases, durability, thickness and prices. Engadget said foldables have overcome many early limitations. Early models faced design, durability and cost issues, while later generations added stronger materials and higher water and dust resistance. Counterpoint projected 2026 iPhone Duo sales of 6 million units.
