Birth order may affect which diseases are diagnosed, study finds
A study found that diseases diagnosed more often can differ by birth order. An analysis of U.S. commercial health insurance data covering more than 10 million people in two-sibling families found 150 conditions with differing diagnosis frequencies between firstborns and secondborns. Of 418 conditions with enough cases, 79 were more often diagnosed in firstborns and 71 in secondborns. Researchers cautioned the findings reflect diagnoses in records, not actual incidence.
