Coinbase layer2 Base adopts Succinct zero-knowledge technology to enable one-day transaction finality
Coinbase-led Ethereum layer2 network Base is working with zero-knowledge technology provider Succinct to strengthen security, The Block reported on Sunday. Base will add Succinct’s SP1 zero-knowledge virtual machine and a trusted execution environment. Base currently runs as an optimistic rollup, which relies on a challenge period that can last days. Base said the integration can replace that period with cryptographic finality, achieving one-day finality.

ENS halts own layer 2 work, focuses on Ethereum mainnet
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) will operate its next-generation protocol, ENSv2, only on the Ethereum mainnet and has stopped development of Namechain, its own layer 2 solution prepared for more than two years, The Block reported. Co-founder Nick Johnson said Ethereum has scaled much faster than expected. ENS had planned to cut .eth registration and update costs using a ZK-rollup-based layer 2, but said lower gas fees and a higher gas limit improved mainnet economics.

Mantle adopts Ethereum blobs, moves to Ethereum ZK rollup architecture
Mantle Network said on Jan. 23 it has adopted Ethereum blobs as its main data availability layer and will transition to an Ethereum ZK rollup architecture. Mantle said the shift strengthens its high-performance distribution-layer strategy connecting traditional finance, real-world assets and on-chain liquidity, while better aligning with Ethereum’s long-term scaling roadmap. It said the move gathered pace after Ethereum’s Fusaka upgrade, which it views as a turning point for expanding blob throughput capacity by up to eight times in theory.
