Intel shares surge 15 percent after hours on Q1 beat, strong Q2 outlook; data center and foundry sales rise
Intel\'s shares surged 15 percent in after-hours trading after the company posted first-quarter results that beat market expectations and issued a stronger-than-expected second-quarter outlook. Revenue rose 7.2 percent to $13.58 billion, topping forecasts. Data center revenue climbed 22 percent to $5.1 billion and foundry revenue rose 16 percent to $5.4 billion. Intel posted a net loss of $4.28 billion, wider than a year earlier.

Intel, Google step up cooperation on AI, cloud infrastructure
Intel and Google have formalised a multi-year cooperation to build next-generation AI and cloud infrastructure, the companies said on Thursday. They will strengthen the roles of CPUs and application-specific integrated circuit-based infrastructure processing units as heterogeneous AI systems expand. The partnership also aims to improve performance, energy efficiency and total cost of ownership across Google’s global infrastructure over multiple generations of Xeon processors, and to expand joint development of ASIC-based IPUs.

MLPerf inference v6.0 benchmark released as AI inference datacentre chip race intensifies
MLCommons released MLPerf inference v6.0 benchmark results on April 1, with 23 companies submitting 451 results comparing datacentre accelerators from Nvidia, AMD and Intel. The round added new large generative AI models including DeepSeek-R1 and Llama 3.1 405B, and expanded beyond text generation to video and multimodal benchmarks. Nvidia posted top scores with Blackwell-based GB300 and B300 systems, while AMD entered clusters using Instinct MI355X.
