On-device AI is ready to shake up an AI market dominated by frontier models

AI expert Sigil Wen (시질 웬), who developed the on-device AI model Underdog, said AI models are moving out of data centres and into personal devices. He said most AI tokens will soon be generated on smartphones and laptops. He cited benchmark results showing a 27-billion-parameter Qwen 3.8 27B model on Macs and iPhones scoring higher than Opus 4.6 Max. Wen said large models are unnecessary for daily tasks and stressed speed and security as key advantages of on-device AI.

Iris-based World ID can overcome limits of captchas and KYC for proof of personhood in AI era

Tools For Humanity, which develops the iris-based ID project World, said proof of personhood is becoming more important in the AI era and that World ID can overcome the limits of captchas and KYC checks. Chief Business Officer Trevor Traina said bots generate more than half of web activity and can now replicate IDs, weakening existing verification. He said the World app has nearly 40 million downloads and 18 million users verified via Orb.

Xpeng posts record quarterly deliveries of 118,390 vehicles in third quarter

Chinese electric vehicle maker Xpeng delivered a record 118,390 vehicles in the third quarter, up 15 percent from the previous quarter and about 2 percent from a year earlier, Cleantechnica reported. September deliveries rose 5.5 percent from August to 41,256 units. Cumulative deliveries for January to September fell 9.2 percent from a year earlier to 284,367. Xpeng also expanded its charging network across China and opened its first megawatt-class ultra-fast charger in Hong Kong.
