Mercedes to fit Waabi AI driving system within two years
Mercedes has signed a production agreement with British autonomous driving startup Waabi and plans to install Waabi\'s artificial intelligence driving system in its vehicles within two years. It is the first time Waabi\'s end-to-end driving AI will be applied to mass-produced premium passenger cars. The system will be integrated with Mercedes hardware, MB.OS and map interfaces, and offered as an advanced driver assistance feature for city streets and highways. Details were not disclosed.

Waymo vice president says AI alone cannot find a shortcut to self-driving
Waymo has concluded it cannot find a shortcut to self-driving through advances in AI alone, Axios reported on Aug. 26. Waymo has logged more than 200 million miles of driverless driving over 15 years, but said data and model performance alone do not solve autonomous driving. Vice President Srikanth Sirumala said safer large-scale deployment needs more than better AI and argued sensors and high-definition maps remain necessary.

Uber launches dedicated self-driving unit to focus on providing infrastructure to partners
Uber has launched a new division targeting the autonomous vehicle market, TechCrunch reported on Sunday. The unit, called Uber Autonomous Vehicle Solutions, aims to provide software and support services for operating robo-taxis, self-driving trucks and sidewalk delivery robots. Uber has participated through partnerships after abandoning in-house AV development. An executive said the goal is to help partners cut costs and speed market entry. Uber plans to expand robo-taxi operations to 15 cities by year-end.
