Snapdragon Summit 2026: Will Qualcomm\'s multi-flagship strategy widening OEM options work?
Qualcomm is splitting its flagship mobile platform into two products with different dies and packages, aiming to let smartphone makers choose features by model and lower average costs across lineups. Features such as 8K 60fps capture and the APV codec are limited to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme 6th Gen. Executives said the two platforms share CPU design but differ in GPU features, memory and accelerators, and show AI performance gaps in parallel tasks.

Chips&Media secures functional safety certification for autonomous driving IP
Chips&Media said on Sept. 3 its next-generation multimedia IP, WAVE6331X FuSa, obtained ISO 26262 ASIL-B functional safety certification from global certification body DNV. The company said the certification followed more than 2 years of research and development and will help it expand from consumer multimedia devices into automotive semiconductors, including advanced driver assistance systems and in-vehicle infotainment. It said the IP detects hardware faults and data corruption and helps shift systems to a safe state within set response times.

Google releases first Android 17 beta, introduces continuous developer updates
Google has released the first beta of Android 17 and introduced a new developer update approach, TechCrunch reported on Tuesday. Instead of a traditional developer beta, Google will run a continuous Canary channel that offers APIs and features immediately after they pass internal testing, similar to Chrome’s update model. The Canary build lets developers try new changes early via OTA updates. Google targets a second-quarter 2026 release and aims for platform stability in March.
