Samsung Electronics develops industry\'s first UFS 5.0, mass production in fourth quarter
Samsung Electronics said on Monday it has developed the industry\'s first UFS 5.0, the latest embedded memory standard from JEDEC, as on-device AI boosts demand for faster storage. The product is based on the company’s ninth-generation V-NAND and supports sequential read speeds of 10.8 GB/s and write speeds of 9.5 GB/s, about double UFS 4.1. Samsung said power efficiency improves by more than 40 percent and mass production will start in the fourth quarter.

OpenAI may be preparing a ChatGPT-centric smartphone as its first hardware product, according to a projection. MacRumors, cited by The Verge, reported that tipster Ming-Chi Kuo said OpenAI is accelerating development and targeting mass production in early 2027. Kuo also estimated cumulative shipments of about 30 million units in 2027-2028. The report cited a custom chip based on MediaTek\'s Dimensity 9600 and possible premium specifications, while noting details remain unconfirmed.

A next-generation super-premium flagship smartphone may be in testing, focusing on top-tier silicon and memory specifications, PhoneArena reported, citing tipster Digital Chat Station. The device is said to feature 16GB LPDDR6 RAM, 1TB UFS 5.0 storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 6th Gen Pro chipset. Estimated component costs could lift the bill of materials above $800, with a possible consumer price of $1,700 or more, it said.
