ByteDance targets mass production of in-house AI CPU by 2027 to cut GPU reliance
TikTok owner ByteDance is accelerating development of a next-generation in-house central processing unit as AI services drive a surge in computing demand. It is seeking to reduce reliance on external GPUs and raise the share of its own semiconductors. The company aims to complete the CPU design by early 2027 and begin mass production and internal deployment in the second half of that year. It is also working with Qualcomm and seeking foundry capacity.

Nota unveils AWS AI chip optimisation service, supports AI model lightweighting
AI model lightweighting and optimisation technology company Nota said on July 7 it will launch a tuning service that lightweight customer AI models for Amazon Web Services\' in-house AI chips. As an AWS certified partner, Nota will provide lightweighting and tuning for chips such as Trainium and Inferentia, using its Netspresso lightweighting and deployment platform. The service covers verification, model porting and performance tuning.

Anthropic considers developing its own AI chip, discusses partnership with Samsung Electronics
Anthropic has started early-stage work to develop its own AI chip and is discussing a manufacturing partnership with Samsung Electronics, The Information reported on Wednesday, citing three people familiar with the matter. Two sources said Anthropic is considering Samsung’s 2-nanometre manufacturing process and advanced packaging facilities. The company is still defining the chip’s role, performance targets and deployment. It has begun hiring and recently recruited Clive Chan, an early member of OpenAI’s in-house chip team.
