Google Cloud starts selling TPU AI chips to external customers to diversify cloud revenue

Google Cloud will sell some of its in-house TPU AI chips to external customers, The Register reported on April 30. Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai said demand for TPUs is rising among AI research labs, capital markets firms and high-performance computing users, and that Google will start supplying TPUs to some customers’ own data centres. CFO Anat Ashkenazi said some TPU sales revenue will occur this year but be reflected fully in 2027.
