Snapdragon Summit 2026: Memory price burden could last for several quarters or longer
Qualcomm is looking for ways to reduce cost pressure on Snapdragon PCs as memory prices rise, as agentic AI on PCs requires a certain amount of DRAM and storage. Nitin Kumar, Qualcomm vice president of product management, said the outlook for memory prices is hard to predict and the burden could last for several quarters or longer. Qualcomm chip-based Microsoft Surface PCs show 80 percent faster local AI inference
Qualcomm presented agentic AI as the direction for its Snapdragon X2 series at Snapdragon Summit 2026 in Maui, Hawaii. Microsoft unveiled a 12-inch Surface Pro and a 13-inch Surface Laptop powered by Snapdragon X2 Plus. Qualcomm said local AI inference is 80 percent faster than the previous generation and GPU performance is up to 55 percent higher. The company also highlighted more operating systems, software demos and wider retail and enterprise adoption.

Google and Qualcomm are expanding their partnership beyond smartphones to laptops and cars, as AI shifts from chatbots to agentic systems that carry out tasks for users. Google executive vice president Rick Osterloh said token use has risen sevenfold in a year and Gemini reached 1 billion monthly users fastest in Google history. He said full-stack solutions combining local and cloud processing require close cooperation and must meet device heat and compute limits.
